Garber Challenges Lukert to Two Debates with Impartial Sponsor and Local Media Moderator
SABETHA – Republican, Kansas House Member, Randy Garber today issued an impartial debate challenge to his Democrat opponent Steve Lukert. In order to protect the integrity of the process, Garber is requesting democrat nominee, Steve Lukert to agree to participate in at least two debates that meet the following criteria:
1. Sponsorship by an independent organization/group or equal co-sponsorships by organizations/groups that back specific candidates.
2. A member of the local media, preferably in district, to moderate, overseeing topic and question selection.
3. The debate needs to be held at a facility that does not receive funding from the state of Kansas.
Garber also announced that businessman Francis Awerkamp will represent his campaign in negotiations regarding debate specifics, rules and procedures.
Randy Garber also released the following statement about his impartial debate challenge to Lukert, “I think there are major policy differences between Mr. Lukert and me. The public deserves a chance to see these differences debated in a fair setting.” Garber continued, ” America has a long tradition of candidate debates with independent sponsors and trusted members of the media to moderate. I sincerely hope that Mr. Lukert, in the interest of an impartial public discussion of the issues, will accept my debate challenge and this simple, reasonable criteria.”
